RVing as a Tech Nomad: Braving a Windstorm Adventure in Astoria, Oregon

freedom and flexibility technology consultant lifestyle work anywhere work-life balance

When most families think "vacation," they picture palm trees, calm seas, and perfectly Instagrammable sunsets. Our family? We roll into a KOA in Astoria, Oregon—just as a windstorm rolls in, too. It's all part of the adventurous RV lifestyle we love as a tech nomad family.

Some people might call it "bad timing." We call it "perfect timing."

We love RVing during off-times. Sure, the weather can be, well, spicy, but we practically get the entire place to ourselves. It’s like having a private campground—only with the added bonus of feeling like we had our own personal adventure park, complete with thrilling wind effects and spontaneous outdoor obstacle courses. RV adventures like these are what make the remote work lifestyle so exciting!

As we pulled into the Astoria KOA, the first thing we noticed was outdoor chairs flipped over and trees bending in the wind like they were trying out for a modern dance recital. The second thing was the eerie silence—not a soul around except a few hardy KOA staffers who greeted us with knowing looks that said, "You're either brave or slightly unhinged."

Making Fun Out of Chaos: RV Family Adventures

Inside the RV, we had cozy movie marathons, built cozy hideouts with blankets and pillows, and played endless card games. Honestly, it felt like camping with a side of adrenaline—a solid 10/10 experience for any RV family.

We ventured over to the KOA game room, where they had ping pong, pool tables, and other board games to enjoy. I was able to show off my pool shark skills to the kids and even sneak in a little physics lesson along the way—a memorable moment for me, passing down some of the tips and tricks my own dad had taught me. We also made great use of the indoor pool to help wear out some very energetic kids—another huge perk of RV camping with children.

The KOA facility was perfect for this weather. The facilities were very clean and warm. I was able to comfortably take a hot shower after the pool, and the bathrooms were spacious and clean. I can really appreciate that!

The Salesforce Consultant Life: Remote Work from the Road

Being a Salesforce consultant who works remotely, I'm used to adapting to "interesting" conditions. Working from an RV in a windstorm? Just another day in the flexible tech nomad workforce. I had my hotspot ready, laptop charged, and thankfully I had work that didn't require me to get on a conference call. I am still able to get work done wherever, whenever!

Honestly, it’s a lot like troubleshooting a Salesforce org: unpredictable, occasionally alarming, but ultimately rewarding when you can laugh about it afterward. The remote work lifestyle allows me to blend adventure, family time, and career growth all from the comfort of our traveling RV office.

Why Off-Season RVing Wins for Remote Workers

Crowds? Nonexistent. Reservations? Easy. Adventure level? Off the charts.

Sure, you might lose a lawn chair or two to the elements, but you’ll gain a hundred stories to tell. And if you're lucky, maybe even a free hat—courtesy of the one that blew off someone else's head.

Final Verdict: RV Life as a Salesforce Consultant

Astoria, KOA, and a windstorm = unforgettable. I'd choose a blustery, borderline-absurd RV adventure over a cookie-cutter trip any day. The blend of tech nomad life, family bonding, and working remotely makes it all worthwhile.
