We Bought an RV—Chasing Sunsets and Our Next Big Adventure!

digital nomad tips freedom and flexibility technology consultant lifestyle work anywhere work-life balance

The day has finally arrived: we bought our first RV. Her name is Roxy Cruz, and she’s not just a vehicle—she’s an adventurous, vibrant, and comforting partner for all our travels. Roxy Cruz is all about turning every journey into an unforgettable experience, blending the excitement of the open road with the serenity of cozy, memorable moments. And let me tell you, we’re ready to embrace freedom, relaxation, and exploration—one mile at a time.

Roxy Cruz Hits the Road (And So Do We)

I had exactly two hours before my next meeting when we rolled out, which gave us just enough time to make a pit stop in Olympia. Carl grabbed lunch, and I turned Roxy into a mobile office. Nothing says “modern technology” like taking a conference call from an RV while using a T-Mobile hotspot. Roxy Cruz makes it easy to balance bold adventures with laid-back comfort—and in that moment, I had everything I needed: a laptop, a hotspot, and the excitement of the open road waiting just outside the window.

With my call wrapped and Carl’s salad demolished, we hit the road again. This is the part of RV life I love the most: working anywhere, exploring everywhere, and knowing that wherever we go, Roxy Cruz gives us the freedom to do it all in comfort.

Heading to our campsite in Westport, WA.

For our first trip, we picked a spot right on the water with sunsets so beautiful they look like they belong on the cover of a travel magazine. We found this place on Hipcamp, which is like Airbnb but for people who don’t mind trading room service for campfire dinners. Spoiler alert: it’s worth it.

When we arrived at our campsite, Roxy Cruz made it easy to set up and settle in. Carl handled the outside like a pro, while I focused on the inside—fluffing the bed, organizing the kitchen, and happily claiming the title of 'Chief of Indoor Operations. Within minutes, our adventure on wheels was ready to be home.

Bottle Beach and a Dinner with a View

Once settled, we ventured out to Bottle Beach State Park. Bottle Beach State Park isn’t just a clever name—it’s a fascinating place where the tide washes in relics of the past, including, you guessed it, bottles! Back in the day, this area was a hub of industry, and glass bottles from old factories and settlements occasionally resurface on the shore, giving the beach its name. While we didn’t stumble upon any ancient treasure (or even a message in a bottle, sadly), the idea that each washed-up bottle has its own little story added a unique charm to the walk. It’s like a scavenger hunt, but with a side of local history and a lot of mud!

But the real magic happened as the sun began to set. Friends, let me tell you: this wasn’t just a sunset—it was a Glorious Roxy Cruz Sunset. It felt like a moment straight out of a movie, where the colors of the sky whisper, “This is what freedom feels like.” Carl cooked steak over the campfire while I sat back, took it all in, and thought, this is why we bought an RV.

Westport, Lighthouses, and Heated Toilet Seats

The next morning, we took Roxy Cruz on a little road trip to town. First stop: the lighthouse, which looked suspiciously closed until we spotted a dramatic “OPEN” flag flapping in the breeze. For $5 each, we got a guided tour and an up-close look at the history of the area. Climbing the lighthouse stairs was a workout, but the view at the top was worth it: sweeping vistas of the ocean, Westport, and even Ocean Shores across the water. It was one of those unforgettable moments that Roxy Cruz is all about—bold adventures, serene views, and memories that stick with you.

Afterward, we explored the quiet streets of Westport. Being off-season meant fewer crowds and more opportunities to chat with locals, stroll at our own pace, and soak up the crisp winter air. The low 30s temperature might not sound ideal, but the sunshine made it all feel magical.

Before heading back to camp, we decided to explore Ocean Shores. It is a different vibe than Westport that you have to experience. Westport is the rugged, laid-back adventurer, while Ocean Shores is the polished, beachy sibling—together, they’re the perfect coastal yin and yang. As we left Ocean Shores we stopped at the local Ace Hardware to pickup some items and I had to relieve myself. I wasn’t expecting much, but then it happened: I discovered the best bathroom of all time. Clean, welcoming, and—wait for it—a heated toilet seat. I don’t know who decided public restrooms deserve heated toilet seats, but they’re a genius, and I would like to personally thank them.

Adventures in Mud: A Love Story

Sunday morning, Carl and I decided to walk along the beach one last time. There was a bridge in the distance, and we were determined to reach it. Along the way, we encountered muddy streams. Carl wanted to find the safest path across, but I—being me—decided to just go for it.

I jumped.

And landed.

On all fours. In the mud.

Carl didn’t say much. He just stood there, shaking his head, while I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe. (To his credit, I think he was laughing internally but didn’t want to encourage my questionable decision-making.) All he said was, “Why didn’t you wait for me?” To which I replied: “I’m an action kind of gal.” And it’s true—sometimes, you just have to jump.

Lessons from the Road

By the time we packed up and headed home, Carl and I were recharged, slightly muddy (ok..I was muddy), and already planning our next adventure. Roxy Cruz proved she’s more than just an RV—she’s our partner in this new chapter of life. Whether we’re chasing sunsets, exploring small towns, or just enjoying the cozy moments inside, Roxy Cruz is all about turning every journey into an unforgettable experience.

So here’s to life on the road, sunsets that make you emotional, and heated toilet seats in unexpected places. Follow along as we take Roxy Cruz on new adventures—combining remote work, tech consulting insights, and all the wild moments in between.
